Simple Christmas Countdown {day 12}

Today I’m excited to welcome Amy from one of my favorite blogs, Super Healthy Kids! I love all of the tips Amy shares on helping your kids make healthy food choices, which we all know can become even more of a challenge during the holidays. Enjoy this terrific healthy holiday snack idea from Amy and be sure to scroll down to the bottom of today’s post for details on how to enter to win one of her fabulous Healthy Habits Kids Plates!
Healthy Holiday Snacks
from Amy Roskelley

The holiday’s can be a busy. It can feel especially overwhelming if you are taking your little ones on long shopping trips through crowded malls. Whether it’s long car trips, shopping trips, or even just leaving your kids home with a babysitter while you get some things done, it’s nice to have some readymade snacks for the kids to keep them happy! When your children are small, the best snacks are:
· portable
· shelf stable
· customizable
· simple (of course)
· low on the messy/sticky side of things
· dense with calories and nutrients
· and of course, Tasty!

That is why we love trail mix! In the winter time, when fresh fruits are scarce; nuts, seeds, and dried fruit start creeping into our diet. The best thing about trail mix, besides having all the qualities of an amazing and healthy snack, is that you can tailor it to your child’s preferences. We choose our snack mix from:
· cereals (low in sugar, but high in fiber)
· nuts
· seeds
· chocolates
· dried fruits
· coconut
· and anything else little fingers can pick up

So, fix your family some holiday snack mix. Choose from red things, such as dried cranberries. Choose green nuts and seeds, such as pistachio’s or pumpkin seeds. Then add some white things into the mix, such as yogurt covered raisins, or coconut. Then don’t forget to take your trail mix along for a quick and healthy snack on those long shopping trips.

If you’d like the chance to win a Healthy Habits Kids Plate of your own leave a comment on today’s post sharing one of your favorite healthy (or at least mostly healthy) 😉  holiday snacks with us. I for one love mandarin oranges!

Popcorn. You can make it festive by adding a sprinkling of red and green M&Ms.

Someone how I have managed to have my two year old request banas (bananas), apples, and oanges (oranges). When I run out, it is a serious problem. He has even eat 2 bananas right before dinner and hardly any dinner…but how can I complain? 😉 And…he loves anything on a plate and knows which plates are his. Doesn’t so much care for ours. 😉

almost not very healthy snack would be another banana creation.
    BBQ banana mars bar.
banana cut a small line in it (not cutting all the way through.) chop up fun size mars bar and put into cut then wrap banana up in al foil and pop on the BBQ for a few mins. serve with ice cream.
